Why You Need Nutrition, Training, and Recovery for Results

How do you rate your nutrition, training, and recovery? Think about this, when you go to sit on a stool, you expect all three legs to be the same size and strength. Imagine if you went to sit back, and one leg was four feet tall, while another was two. You would fall over immediately because the seat is unbalanced. Similarly, when considering your health and fitness goals, you need to build a balanced stool.

Nutrition:

Nutrition is the foundation of the CrossFit pyramid. Without sound nutrition, you won't achieve your goals. The old sayings, "you can't out-train a bad diet," and, "abs are made in the kitchen," are undoubtably true. While we all wish on some level we could eat ice cream and pizza and still be in great shape, it isn't reality. Make protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats the focus of your nutrition plan and watch your performance and health improve drastically.

Training:

Obviously, without training, your fitness and health won't improve. You must apply an outside stimulus to see your health markers get better, and increase muscle. In CrossFit, we believe constantly varied, functional movements done at high intensity are the stimulus you need. Train hard four to six times a week, combine with sound nutrition, and see what happens.

Recovery:

While there is certainly such a thing as overtraining, most people never train enough hours to have to worry about it. What is actually happening is many athletes under-recover. Recovery is absolutely imperative for improvement. When you train, you break down your body and it's during recovery that your body adapts and improves. The best way to ensure your body is able to reward your hard work is to sleep seven to nine hours per night, every night. Sound sleep, proper nutrition, and hydration will help you train your best each day. This formula will give your body time to show off all of your hard work.
