Views From the Box – CrossFit Personal Best Week

Today, I want to just take a second and highlight a couple really impressive personal best performances from a few of our athletes at Summit Strength & CrossFit SSP. We have recently completed a very tough program of high rep back squats while of course continuing the focus on CrossFit’s principles of constantly varied, functional movements done at high intensity. I’m happy to report that we have seen awesome results as we have entered testing week, after only day one, and I can’t wait to see what everyone produces in the coming days!

Lauren Turner broke through the 200 pound barrier on her back squat and did a personal best 205, a 20 pound jump from our last back squat test just a couple months ago. She just barely missed 225, and I’m certain that milestone is coming up very shortly. Lauren is one of our most consistent athletes, an absolute joy to coach, and it is awesome to see her improving day by day.

Eric Morris also had an outstanding performance on our back squat test. Eric has a crazy job schedule which keeps him bouncing around from class to class, but he definitely puts in the effort to make it into the gym at least three times a week, every week. He also utilizes CrossFit SSP being the only 24/7 access CrossFit box in the MidWest and comes in on his own time using our fob entry option when he cannot make a class. All of that effort culminated in a 50 pound personal best back squat during 7:30 class this morning!

Gabi Ingram has been with us from the start and is an absolute beast. Unfortunately, she has had knee issues stemming from surgeries during her soccer career, so we have to be careful with weighted squatting. Because of this, Gabi has been focusing on hip hinge movements, so when everyone else squats, she deadlifts. And deadlifts. And deadlifts some more. All of that work has definitely paid off, though. Yesterday night Gabi crushed a 290 pound deadlift, a 35 pound personal record, and I have no doubt that 315 is coming soon.
